Writing slopes were used as travelling desks. Writing boxes usually contain receptacles for sand and ink, small containers for sharpeners and longer ones for quills, a flat compartment for writing paper, and additional space for blotters, wax, seals and tapers.

We always have a varied collection of writing boxes. Our experience is that they are rather an original gift.
